Understanding Polyphenols and Catechins

Certain plants such as green tea are composed of a high content of polyphenols which are bioflavenoids that have been shown to have antioxidant properties.

Most polyphenols in green tea are commonly known as catechins possessing highly potent antioxidant characteristics. The major preventative catechin in green tea polyphenol is epigallocatechin gallate or (EGCG). Other catechins found in green tea are epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin 3-gallate (ECG) and epicatechin (EC).
